Finding Us

We are located directly next to the Rusty Lantern Gas station across from Family Dollar. We’re the all black house with baby blue doors.

Please do not block the driveway – other guests or ourselves may need access to the back of the property. Instead, drive toward the back of the property. Just past the main duplex and before the barn, you’ll see a large propane tank and a courtyard-like space. This nook is your designated parking spot. If you have more than one car and the courtyard parking is full, please feel free to park out behind the barn.

It’s fine to briefly pull up near your unit to unload luggage, but please move your car to the designated parking area afterward.

An EV charger is also available for your use, located in the parking area between the back of the house and the barn. Please only use this space when actively using the EV Charger.

Help us avoid unnecessary clogs.

Our cleaners appreciate your timeliness!

Here you can find instructions for most of the amenities the cabin provides – if these guides don’t answer your questions please don’t hesitate to reach out!

Open the grate at the bottom of the fireplace and follow the instructions from there to ignite. If the instructions are not there, please check the basket with yoga mats to the left as it often gets misplaced there.

IMPORTANT: Please make sure the HRV system is on while the fireplace is on to ensure proper ventilation of the space. We do not recommend using the fireplace overnight.

This is a ventilation system to take stale air out of the unit and bring fresh air in. This is operated by a remote and can be set to just bring fresh air in, take stale out, or perform a combination of both.

Please always ensure this is on when the fireplace is on.

These are controlled by the remotes that say “Senville” on them and you can operate the temperature from the living space and the bedroom independently.

For stays in the winter, or when there are freezing temperatures in the forecast,  please make sure the mini-split is always on and set to heating to avoid any pipe bursting potential in the unit.

In the winter, please keep the bedroom door closed as that will allow the bedroom to heat properly. If you leave the door open, all of the heat from the mini-split will escape into the living room.

For stays in the summer/spring/fall, when there are no freezing temperatures in the forecast, we ask that you try to leave the mini-splits off when not in us to conserve energy. Most days we find that they mini-splits aren’t necessary due to the perfect temperatures outside.

The bedroom can get chillier in the winter if the bedroom door is left open as the heat will escape to the next room due to the path of the mini-split and the location of the door. We recommend keeping that door closed in the winter to contain the heat.

In addition, there is a space heater on the wall next to the desk. Please turn this on auto-mode and adjust the dial until you’ve reached a comfortable setting. This provides supplemental heat to keep the bedroom nice and cozy in the winter.

The main space is unique as we do not have any light switches to operate the lights. There are two remotes: one for the fan/fan light in the kitchen and another for the lights above the couch. The living room light remote is labeled on the side “Living Room” and it is “1” on the remote and you can use on to turn it on and off to turn it off.

Please make sure the fan light is always mounted next to the door prior to leaving for easy access to turning on the lights when arriving at night.

The main bedroom and bathroom lights are operated by light switches that are placed on the right when you first walk in to those rooms

There is also a floor lamp in the living room and a desk lamp in the bedroom – these are both operated by the little black button on the “stem” of the light fixtures.

The dining table hanging light is operated by the black dial that is on the wall directly next to the table. You can adjust the dial depending on how much light you want to have.

The front door has an exterior light that we recommend turning on prior to leaving if you plan to arrive back late at night. This switch is on the wall to the left of the front door when facing it from the inside. We labeled this “Exterior Light”

Le Mu Eats

Scratch-made Asian fusion with bold flavors and creative dishes. This is where you go when you want something unexpected and unforgettable.

Steammill Brewing

A local brewery offering craft beers and elevated comfort food in a laid-back setting. Perfect for when you want casual dining with a touch of sophistication. This is our frequent go-to on a dining out night!

A stylish spot known for its delicious small plates, creative appetizers, and top-notch cocktails. Great for unwinding with friends or enjoying a lively night out.

The Watershed

A cozy, intimate restaurant serving authentic Italian cuisine. Think candlelit but unpretentious atmosphere, fresh pasta, and the ideal setting for a romantic date night.

The Bethel Sugar Shack

A go-to for juicy burgers, quick bites, and a sweet ice cream treat afterward. Ideal for a relaxed, no-fuss meal.

Gemini Bakery

A charming bakery and café in an old remodeled bank serving fantastic coffee (the same Greenwood Bean coffee we provide in the cabin) along with fresh pastries and hearty breakfast options.

The Pie Hole 207

Your best bet for delivery, especially when you want to stay in and enjoy a night at the cabin without sacrificing a great meal. This is the only place in the area that delivers.

Puzzle Mountain Bakery

Not a restaurant, but a cute little pie stand around 10-15 minutes down the road. If you’re visiting in the summer, we highly recommend picking up a pie and enjoying! They’re only open in the summer on Fridays, Saturdays and Sunday and it is an honor system. A true slice of Maine here!

There are countless incredible hiking trails in the area, and we’ve only just begun to explore them ourselves. Below are some of our favorites so far, each offering a different experience depending on what you’re looking for.

Mount Will – 3.3 miles
AllTrails link
One of our top recommendations thanks to its versatility and sweeping views. We’ve hiked Mount Will in both fall and winter (spikes are essential in the snow!) and the scenery never disappoints. In autumn, it’s one of the best places to take in the vibrant foliage stretching across Newry and Bethel.

This one is probably our favorite in the area all year round.

Eyebrow Loop Trail – 2.7 miles
AllTrails link
A short but exciting hike with a little more technical terrain than a standard trail, making it extra fun for adventurous hikers. The climb is well worth it—the panoramic views from the top are simply breathtaking.

Peaked Mountain Trail – 1.9 miles
AllTrails Link

A gentle, forested trail that’s perfect if you’re looking for something quick and not too strenuous. Peaceful, serene, and a great way to immerse yourself in Maine’s natural beauty.

Sunday River Hiking Trails – various lengths
In the summer, Sunday River opens up its ski slopes for hiking. There are trails throughout the mountain that range in difficulty, making it a great option for a day of exploring at your own pace. Select days in the summer they also offer gondola rides to the top and you can hike back down.

Buck Ledge & Lapham Ledge Trails – 2.5 miles
AllTrails link
A moderate hike with rewarding ledge views overlooking Bryant Pond. A great mix of forest paths and open vistas.

Long Mountain Trail – 5.6 miles
AllTrails link
For those looking for a longer adventure, this trail offers steady climbing, lush forest surroundings, and sweeping views at the summit. A satisfying and rewarding day hike.

Caribou Mountain via Bog Road – 5.6 miles
AllTrails link
A classic local favorite. This trail takes you through peaceful forest before opening up to stunning views at the top. A bit of a challenge, but the scenery makes every step worth it.

The Bethel and Newry area is a true four-season destination with endless opportunities to explore, relax, and enjoy the outdoors. Here are some of our favorite activities and local highlights:

🎳 River Lanes Bowling
A fun, family-friendly bowling alley right in Bethel. Great for rainy days or evenings when you want a low-key activity indoors. They often have food and drinks available, making it a relaxed spot to unwind.

🌲 Bethel Community Forest
Over 980 acres of preserved forest with miles of hiking, biking, and cross-country ski trails. It’s perfect for immersing yourself in nature, spotting wildlife, or taking a peaceful walk any time of year.

💎 Maine Mineral & Gem Museum
This museum in downtown Bethel is a hidden gem (pun intended!). It has one of the world’s largest collections of meteorites, dazzling gemstones, and exhibits about Maine’s rich mining history. Great for kids and adults alike.

🍻 Sunday River Festivals & Seasonal Activities
Sunday River hosts festivals, concerts, and special events throughout the year, from summer Brewfests to fall harvest festivals and winter celebrations. Always worth checking their event calendar to see what’s happening during your stay.

🛶 River Floating
A must-try in the summer months! Floating down the Androscoggin River is the perfect way to cool off and take in the scenery at a slow pace. There are local outfitters who provide tubes, kayaks, and transportation.

⛷️ Sunday River Resort
Of course, the area’s most famous attraction—winter skiing and snowboarding. In summer, the resort transforms with hiking, scenic chairlift rides, and events.

🌄 Grafton Notch State Park
Just a short drive away, this state park offers incredible hiking, waterfalls, and some of the most dramatic mountain scenery in western Maine. Trails range from easy strolls to challenging climbs.

💦 Screw Auger Falls
One of the most beautiful waterfalls in the area, located in Grafton Notch State Park. It’s a popular spot in the summer for picnicking and cooling off in the natural pools.

🏌️ Bethel Inn Resort Golf Course
A beautiful 18-hole course right in Bethel, offering mountain views and a classic New England golf experience.

🚴 Mountain Biking
Bethel has a growing mountain biking scene, with trails for all levels. The Bethel Village Trails and Mt Abram bike park are two great options.

🌊 Frenchman’s Hole
A true local favorite and one of the most iconic swimming holes in Maine. Tucked away in Newry, Frenchman’s Hole features a deep natural pool carved out of smooth rock, fed by a small cascading waterfall. On hot summer days, it’s the perfect place to take a refreshing dip or simply relax by the water.

It’s a bit rugged, so wear sturdy shoes to get down to the swimming area, and be mindful of currents and slippery rocks. Parking is limited and can fill up quickly, especially on weekends, so try to go earlier in the day if possible.

Frenchman’s Hole is best enjoyed in the summer, but it’s also beautiful to visit in spring or fall just to take in the scenery.

🔥 Evening Firepit & Stargazing
Sometimes the best activity is no activity at all, just sitting by the fire, roasting marshmallows, and looking up at the incredible Maine night sky.

Groceries, Beverages & Local Finds

Whether you’re stocking up for your stay or just picking up a few essentials, here are the best spots in and around Bethel:

🛒 Mainely Provisions (Downtown Bethel – 2-3 Minutes)
The closest and most convenient option, with everything from groceries and toiletries to beer, wine, and liquor.

🛒 Walmart (30 minutes)
If you need a bigger shopping trip, Walmart is a little drive away, but the best part is they actually deliver directly here. A great option if you’d prefer groceries and essentials brought straight to you.

🥗 Good Food Store (3-5 minutes)
A health-focused market with a wonderful selection of organic items, local produce, specialty goods, and ready-to-eat options. A great stop if you’re looking for something fresh, wholesome, and locally sourced.

🍻 The Bethel Beverage Company (3-5 minutes)
Hands down the best beer selection in town, and usually our go-to when stocking up. If you’d like to taste something brewed in Maine, you can’t go wrong with:

  • Belleflower Brewing Company

  • Mast Landing Brewing Company

  • Maine Beer Company

  • Bissell Brothers

Each has its own unique style, and you really can’t be disappointed with any of them, especially if you love a good IPA.

🦞 High Tide Low Tide Seafood Truck
On Saturdays, you’ll find this seafood truck parked right in front of The Bethel Beverage Company until about 5 PM. It’s a fantastic option if you want to cook up a fresh seafood dinner at the cabin. We especially love the halibut when it’s in season, but if you have your heart set on a certain fish or lobster, call ahead to reserve.

🌱 Bethel Farmers’ Market
Every Saturday morning (8 AM–12 PM) in the center of Bethel, you’ll find a charming local market with farm-fresh produce, baked goods, and other artisanal treats. Perfect for picking up ingredients with a local touch.
