Where the Alps Meet the Maine Woods

A Swiss-Nordic cabin for two on 39 private acres above a mountain brook.

Woodstock, ME

Woods at Eye Level

Floor-to-ceiling windows in the living room bring the forest right up to the glass, and the bedroom frames a single massive boulder like it was set there on purpose.

39 Private Acres, Two Cabins

Alpen and Skog share the land and nothing else. Sited apart, each with its own sauna, hot tub, and fire pit.

Sauna and Hot Tub Under the Trees

Heat, cold air, and a fire pit to end the night by. The whole point of coming here.

Perfect for Romantic Getaways

One bedroom, one bath, adults only. Designed for couples who want to actually hear each other think.

About This Property

You'll hear the brook before you see it. Alpen sits directly above it, the first of two cabins at HAVN, where a Swiss alpine chalet and a Nordic cabin met somewhere in the middle and stayed. Floor-to-ceiling windows put the woods at arm's length. In the bedroom, a boulder the size of a car sits framed in the glass — glacial delivery, roughly ten thousand years ahead of schedule.

Thirty-nine acres to wander. Brooks cut down through the trees. Ledge cliffs rise near the top of the property, and partway between them sits the pond we call Cliff Pond: still black water with a wall of granite standing behind it. Go up in the morning, come back muddy.

Then the good part. Cedar sauna until you can't stand it, cold air on the walk to the hot tub, fire pit when you're done, fireplace when it gets late. HAVN is Norwegian for harbor. Bethel and Sunday River are 15-20 minutes out when you want them, and easy to forget when you don't.

The Experience

What Makes This Place Special

01

Alpine Lines, Nordic Restraint

A steep-pitched chalet form with a pared-back Scandinavian interior. Natural materials, warm light, nothing extra.

02

The Brook.

Alpen is perched directly above it. It's the first thing you hear when you open the door and the last thing you hear at night.

03

Nordic Ritual: Sauna, Hot Tub, Fire.

A cedar sauna, a hot tub under open sky, and a fire pit for after. Sequence them however you like.

04

Land to Get Lost In.

Follow the brooks up toward the ledge cliffs, or walk down to Cliff Pond and its granite backdrop. Thirty-nine acres, and only one other cabin on them.

The Perfect Location

Alpen at HAVN sits in the western Maine mountains, 15-20 minutes from Bethel and just as close to the lifts at Sunday River. Ski or ride in winter, hike and paddle the rest of the year, then head into Bethel for dinner and be back at the fire pit inside twenty minutes. Set back from the road and screened by trees, with the brook running below the deck.
