Western Maine

HAVN

HAVN is Norwegian for harbor: two private Nordic cabins on 39 acres in the western Maine mountains, 15 to 20 minutes from Bethel and Sunday River. Alpen and Skog share the land and nothing else. Each has its own cedar sauna, hot tub, fire pit and fireplace, with outdoor space set up for privacy. Private paths lead down to picnic tables by the brook, and the land climbs behind the cabins past brooks and ledge cliffs to Cliff Pond, still water with a wall of granite behind it. First guests arrive this winter, and pre-booking is open now.

Rendering of Skog at HAVN, a mid-century Nordic cabin with sauna and hot tub in the trees

Skog at HAVN

Skog is Norwegian for forest, and that's most of what you see from inside. A mid-century cabin set back in the trees, its shed roof rising to one tall wall that is nearly all glass, catching the morning sun. The kitchen is made for cooking a long dinner together, and the cedar sauna, hot tub and fire pit are a few steps out the door.
